Grant Ham, A Passion for Art

A proud member of the renowned ‘Oil Painters of America’

Grant Ham showed an interest in art from a very early age. His father, Tom, also an artist, recognized this interest and began teaching Grant the basics of shading and form when he was just four years old.
During his basic schooling in the East of England, Grant passed all of his art based studies with high grades, but his talent was kept solely to the classroom due to his commitment to several sports.

Grant attended the Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (CCAT) for his further education, from which he graduated in 1984. During this time Grant Sold many pencil sketch portraits to help him through the ‘poor student years’.
For the next twelve years Grant worked in the electronics industry to satisfy day to day living and to service a mortgage, but the yearning to draw and paint could not be kept down and in 1996 he began painting in both oil and acrylic. The majority of his works at that time were either portraits or figurative, these were mostly commissioned or given as gifts to friends and family

Around the turn of the millennium Grant decided to take the plunge into the deep waters of being a full-time painter and in 2006 he married his beloved and supportive wife and relocated from England to the Pacific Northwest United States to live with her.

Grant has been a successful painter since 2000 and has sold paintings in galleries, shops and online in the UK, US and other parts of the world, whilst winning awards at art shows on both sides of the pond and since re-locating to the USA has gained recognition by being accepted by his peers with membership to the renowned ‘Oil Painters of America’ .
Portraits and figures are still of great interest to Grant along with an ever growing fascination for capturing extreme forms of light, be they natural or man-made.

To this day Grant’s  passion for his work remains undiminished and he has the desire and ambition to continue painting into old age.
