Artist Statement
The role of a contemporary artist is for Beddru to witness social behavior in the current scene and give a voice to those who have been silenced by prejudice and ignorance because of their labeled identity, sexual orientation, origin and/or non conservative views. “Painting is a sort of bubble, my bubble. I isolate and make myself purposely unreachable. It’s a ritual I enjoy alone, a space I allow nobody to penetrate. It’s private. It’s just an affair with my inks and my Plexiglas panels”.
Painting becomes indeed a way to reconnect the dots with past experiences that forged the artist and understand the benefits he enjoys in his present time.for reconnecting the dots between past and present time.
The brave choice of intentionally thorny subjects such as social compromise, narcissism, war, denied freedom, makes clear that Beddru speaks up to support the societal shift neither integrated nor accepted yet by obsolete conservatism. The artist takes a strong critical view on social and cultural issues generating “solvable” inequalities.
The artistic message behind his unconventional artworks stays always positive. Change can happen and we are all responsible for it. Respect, freedom, equality, determination, joy, love become the driving force supporting his creative process expressing itself on singular media such as thick Plexiglas-panels.
His palette of radiant colors instills a positive view on our enjoyable future seen as a natural reward of a daily collaboration of tolerant minds.
