Artist Portfolio Magazine’s 10 Art Competition
Nicholas Sorrill – Quincy, IL
I was born and raised in Quincy, Illinois where I still reside. I’ve been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. While attending Quincy Senior High School I was able to formally study art while taking classes like art studio and architectural drafting. Working with tools of the trade on a more professional level inspired me to see how far I could take my creative skills.
In the Fall of 2012 I began classes at John Wood Community College. While working full-time, I earned my Associates of Applied Science Degree in Graphic Design, graduating in 2014. After that I decided to continue my education and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Fine Art Degree with an empasis on painting at Culver-Stockton College, graduating in 2017.
With my current bodies of work, I explore the rhythm of life, patterns found in nature, and my obsession with color and texture. I’ve developed techniques to take 2D texture painting to an almost sculptural level of raised surfaces by using encaustic and heavy body acrylic mediums.
I’ve also embodied the idea that using the highest quality archival products to create my stunning abstract pieces is the best way to ensure longevity. My goal is to create work that will be around for a very long time.
