Hochan Kim – Rochester, NY
2017 entrance into MFA, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY
My artworks start from the view of apartment. I lived in apartment for 25 years in total, however I never knew who are living in next door in Korea. We often say hello to them, however I don’t know who they are or what their names are or what they are doing for a living. From the point, I started to paint the place where we cannot meet each other. However the place where we cannot meet each other is not what I want to tell. I’m painting the place where we cannot meet each other to show the place where we can meet each other. It is like the air. If there is no air, we realize the importance of the air. Like that, we realize the importance of place where we can meet each other by seeing the place where we cannot meet each other. It is like this. I will make incomplete world to show the complete world. I want to make the I-it relationship to show the I-you relationship. That is the messages I want to tell to audiences.
