Sandrine Hermand Grisel- Landscapes- Artist Portfolio Magazine

Originally from France, Sandrine Hermand-Grisel is a self-taught freelance photographer who has been working in the United States for the past ten years. Despite the diversity of her projects she has a unique, very intimate, relationship with her subjects. Photography provides her with a way to express her feelings, like in the series “Nocturnes” where she photographed only close friends and family members peacefully abandoning themselves in front of her camera. “Somewhere” is her dream of America, a road trip through her adopted country. And “Waterlilies” is full of joy and love for her two children as she watched them jumping and playing in pools over and over again .
Sandrine Hermand-Grisel not only photographs what she loves, she breaks free from her own reality in her poetic vision of the world.

Statement: Somewhere…

Somewhere… in the United States… As an emigrant, I am not a tourist, nor a total stranger, nor totally at home… 50 states… 3.79 million square miles to travel all over to discover it all. In other words an impossible task!

I decided to choose a glimpse of it… here or there… to proceed by strokes… by sensations… here or there… by impressions…
Los Angeles will remain for me a huge amusement park ride in the shape of a giant bean… Death Valley: ravens dancing on a dried tree… Las Vegas: a few palm trees lost in front of an immaculate blue sky… Unusual, timeless, irrational, my memories of America are not what we expect, not like others… my images are an elusive vision of a country without limits…
Somewhere is my American testimonial… my testimonial from here, nowhere and elsewhere…
