Artist Portfolio Magazine – 2017 Q4 Art Competition
Cheryl Pettigrew – Gunnison, CO
Cheryl Pettigrew graduated from Western State College, now Western State University of Colorado, in May, 2000. During her education she gained a wealth of knowledge about painting by studying the masters. Among her favorites to learn from were Cezanne, Monet, Degas, Renoir, and Van Gogh. While in college her emphasis was the human form and still lifes but has since preferred to work landscapes, seascapes and images of the heavens and what lies beyond our sight.
When working Cheryl uses black canvas allowing her to keep the colors rich. The canvases are usually large for greater detail and depth. Cheryl prefers to paint with oils that is almost never diluted which gives her paintings a thick, bold look.
Among Cheryl’s accomplishments in the field of art she has been published in three magazines, sold at auction and was a winner in the SyFy channel’s competition Moments of Imagination in 2014. Because Cheryl is constantly looking for new places to show her work she is able to keep her focus on moving forward and getting her images out to the public. She believes this helps keep mind fresh and inspired. To be able to present new ideas and images to the public is something Cheryl believes is essential to the growth of art in this ever changing world we live in.
