Donna L. Byers – Q4 Art Competition

Artist Portfolio Magazine – Q4 Art Competition

Donna L. Byers – Osoyoos, Canada

Art has been my passion since I was a toddler. I am a self-taught artist from Osoyoos British Columbia, who has never taken an art class…primarily because I want to paint like ‘me’, and not paint like someone else. After 40 years of being away from painting, I have finally recently returned to the brush and canvas and I couldnt be happier! The most important thing to me is to paint the things that move me, that stir my emotions…I paint a variety of different subjects, whether drawn from a fond memory, something I’ve seen (or wish to see), or from a personal experience, but I always paint from the heart.
I enjoy the small details in things, love vivid colours and I’m fond of architectural beauty. I like my work to tell a story, and I always hide a clue in my paintings that isn’t usually noticed until the second or third look.
My long term goal is to open a small gallery with a working studio where local artists can showcase their works and the local community can experience watching an artist’s piece come to life right before their eyes. I believe this would be greatly beneficial to both the emerging artists and the local townspeople.
People often ask me,”what do you paint?” I tell them , “whatever moves me at that moment!”
