Artist Portfolio Magazine – 2017 Q4 Art Competition
Delaney Lambert – Orange, CA
Delaney Lambert (23) is an emerging artist in Orange County, California. Being located between Los Angeles and Laguna Beach, two very prominent art districts, she felt inspired to pursue the arts from an early age.
She studied and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English: Creative Writing with a Studio Art minor from Azusa Pacific University. Here, she learned that art, both painted and written, are powerful forms of communication and found a passion to create something beautiful from deep inside.
“The Lord is my creator, and, since we are all made in the image of God, we are also given attributes of Him. I can ‘create’ as my Lord does, and when I paint, I feel close to Him. It is the time where I feel the most in love and the most joy.”
Delaney’s preferred mediums are watercolor and oil. She enjoys both for their distinct qualities but has a specific love for watercolor since she is self-taught in this practice. She has found a method of paint layering that makes her watercolor images unique, sharp, and vibrant to both the artists’ and the untrained eye. When choosing to use color, she enjoys a very graphic and vibrant pallet but prefers black and white for their dramatic imagery and high contrast.
Her goal in creating art is to make a piece visually enjoyable and meaningful for all people, whether they have an interest in the study of arts or not. Yes, conceptual paintings with a deeper meaning are fun to discover, but if it is not appealing to look at, she does not feel justified as an artist. Delaney, more than anything, wants her work to bring smiles and emulate feelings of joy, beauty, laughter, and love with one simple look.
