Lannie Hart holds a BFA from The Virginia Commonwealth University. She owned and operated “Lannie Hart Design”, a packaging design studio in New York City for 15 years. She also taught Polymer Clay sculpture at Brookfield Center for Crafts (Brookfield, CT). For the past 10 years she has dedicated all her time to her art. Hart has exhibited her workin many NYC galleries
Hart’s work is figurative and surreal. She creates allegorical narratives which originate from her rural beginnings in the South. “The pieces I create are the interpretive study of woman as a metaphorical image. This image explores how women are perceived by society as portrayed in myth and legend.” They evoke nature, religious images and cultural references which have a strong feminine point of view. Her figures often occupy conflicted positions. They are simultaneously exposed and empowered, beautiful but also distorted or unhinged
She has shown her work at The Katonah Museum, Katonah NY, The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Richmond VA, Museum of American Crafts, NYC, Silvermine Guild, New Canaan, CT, Hampton Roads Gallery, Southampton, NY and others.
Some of the juried craft shows she has participated in are Westchester County Crafts, NY, Fine Crafts at the Armory, NYC, Paradise City Crafts, MA and others.
She has been published in Artspeak, Village Voice, Art News and others.
