Frances Elson – Somis, CA

From my birth in Kazakhstan, to parents who were Polish Holocaust refugees, to time in a Displaced Persons’ Camp, and finally to freedom in Canada, Frances Elson learned the lessons of survival and perseverance early and well. Although Science and Mathematics were her early academic interests, an inner voice pulled her constantly toward the Arts and Humanities. After successful careers in Social Work and Interior Design, she discovered the world of Fused Glass, and, at age sixty-one, she immersed herself in that world. In her studio in Somis, California, Frances creates her multi-layered fused landscapes, portraits, sculpture, tableware and home decor objects in a constant flurry of activity, accepting new challenges and exploring new techniques.
