Artist Portfolio Magazine – 2017 Q4 Art Competition
Rufus Royster – Atlanta, GA
Edmund Rufus Royster’s work encompasses an energetic range of drawing, painting and collage within his mixed media pieces. This energetic combination depicts the elegance, complications, joy, and pain of life with a combination of color, texture, and symbolism of life in general, but more often the beauty of contemporary black America, grasping the wonder of humans and nature of portraiture, not just living as one, but also BEING as one.
Born in Detroit, MI, Edmund Royster graduated of Florida A&M University’s Fine Art Program with a BFA in 2010. He first began combining painting and decorative paper in college, inspired by the intricate designs of contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. He then began discovering further ways to combine multiple media, incorporating numerous mediums into his mixed media works. His decade of experience in art retail has introduced him to a variety of artists, ideas, experiences, and product to further fine tune his choices for his work.
