Lannie Hart holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She owned and operated “Lannie Hart Design”, a packaging design studio in NYC for 15 years. She also taught Polymer Clay sculpture at Brookfield Center for Crafts (Brookfield, CT). Hart has exhibited her work at The Katonah Museum, Katonah NY, The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Richmond VA, Museum of American Crafts, NYC, Jim Kempner Gallery, NYC, Broadfoot and Broadfoot, Boonton, NJ, Silvermine Gallery, New Canaan, CT, Hampton Roads Gallery, Southampton, NY and many others

Hart’s work is figurative surrealism.“The pieces I create are the interpretive study of woman as a metaphorical image. This image explores how women are perceived by society as portrayed in myth and legend.” They evoke nature, religious images and cultural references which have a strong feminine point of view. Her figures often occupy conflicted positions. They are simultaneously exposed and empowered, beautiful but also distorted or unhinged.

She has varied interests spanning crafts to fine art and has combined all these techniques into one voice. Her pallet of mixed media includes found objects which shape a memory of a previous life and therefore provide their own narrative.

Lannie now lives and works in Westchester, NY.
