Artist Portfolio Magazine’s 20 Art Competition
Kathleen McSherry – Doylestown, PA
Born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens, NY.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Kathleen McSherry has had a long career in
advertising and marketing in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
She has taught at the School of Visual Arts, Syracuse University, Pratt Institute in New York, University of the Arts and Temple University in Philadelphia and Drew University in New Jersey.
Throughout her tenure as an art/creative director in advertising, she was also a cartoonist. Kathleen says “I believe that the cartoon is the purest form of communication. It has whimsy, insight and poignancy.” Her work has been exhibited in Europe, Japan, the Middle East and South America.
“It’s a calling, to make art. It was always there tapping on my shoulder, but I had to support myself and was fortunate enough to find work that paid for ideas” said McSherry. “I spent my entire career in advertising working collaboratively. Now this is my time to step out of the chorus and go solo.”
Now retired from advertising, she now spends full time creating her art. She has shown
work locally and regionally.
Her studio is in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
STATEMENT:
“My work explores the world of the lost object: obsolete, cast off, and discarded.
I take the objects found from the past that have lost their usefulness, and combine
and alter them in such a way that they come together and rise up, like a phoenix
from the ashes to discover a new language, new meaning and a new form. “
