My first introduction to drawing was in a first year seminar at Bates College. I really connected with drawing as a medium because of both the therapeutic ‘flow’ I find while drawing and how mark-making can capture an ephemeral moment unlike any other medium. At the encouragement of my professor, I declared an art major and eventually moved towards oil painting, focusing on portraiture. I use painting and drawing to explore historical contexts of beauty and womanhood, while also incorporating an awareness of the paranoia of living in the digital age. After a year-long painting thesis, I am attending Teachers College in the fall of 2018 as an Art and Art Education masters candidate.
