I was born in Valencia, Spain. I have studied biology, graphic design, illustration and received training in different artistic techniques. I work mainly in colored pencils and sometimes combine them with watercolor and ink. I also love scratchboard.
My primary subjects are human and animal portraits. As a biologist, I am passionate about nature and wildlife, therefore scientific or naturalistic illustration allows me to combine both worlds, Art and Science. In my animal portraits, I want to reflect not only the physical characteristics of the animal but also its character and personality. That’s why I have titled this series Animal Soul.
They are made in colored pencils with a special technique, the negative or inverted drawing. I draw my models from photographs with inverted colors and once I have made and scanned the drawing, I invert the colors again. With this technique I obtain a magical effect of the animal emerging from the shadows together with a great realism.
