My lifelong passion and Joie de Vivre has been drawing, painting, and creating artworks. I have a deep reverence to God and to the many influences in my past and present which has driven my art through this wonderful adventure.
As a contemporary landscape artist, my themes resonate of God’s creations, respect and preservation of nature, art of the heart and soul, still-life, and preservation of historic architecture.
Being partial to watercolors {my first love} because of it’s spontaneity and free spirit, I also enjoy oil pastels, and virtually all art media. I particularly enjoy Sumi-e, the art of Japanese drawing, and Gyotaku because of it’s historical significance and the medium, India ink. My passion for this artform has so many similarities to the fluidity of watercolor, hence my interests in Asian Brush painting.
My style is eclectic as I am influenced by so many artists, styles, techniques, and art forms, but I have a strong sense of the art fundamentals which is evident in my work. Teaching art foundations for many decades to all types of student learners has attributed to a large degree the belief for good composition in my art. My technique is related to the medium I am using, but I am always open and flexible to experimenting and solving artistic problems. As a retired magnet school Art Specialist with over thirty years experience in curriculum design, program design, studio/classroom instruction and community awareness in the arts, I developed my personal style and skills in watercolour, oil pastels, chalk pastels and mixed art media while continually growing as a professional art educator, patron and professional artist.
I am a member of the Mid-Southern Watercolor Society, Arkansas League of Artists, Arkansas Pastel Society, Arkansas Art Center, Arkansas Art Council, and the Slidell Art League in Louisiana. I am affiliated with numerous on-line art groups which include Arkansas Committee of The National Museum Of Women in the Arts, Fenix Gallery, Arkansas Women Artists, Women in the Arts, Arkansas Artist Association, Watercolour Addicts, and have been a painter since its founding in Brazil in the 52 WEEK Nature Challenge now called ABUN.
I am humbled and honoured to have won numerous awards and received accolades from many art groups and juried exhibits including Best in Shows, Master Artist of the Year, and a scholarship recipient for the Arkansas Committee of the National Museum for Women in the Arts for my watercolour work comparing and contrasting the habitats and culture of my native state of Arkansas with her sister state of Louisiana. While working with the ACNMWA, I found myself living on the NorthShore of Lake Pontchartrain and Bayou Faciane totally immersed and inspired in the wonders and beauty of the flora and fauna that surrounded me each day. I also enjoy plein air experiences, traveling and taking photographs of places that I, family, and friends have taken which I later use as subjects in my studio.
