My name is Daniela Strauss I’m a German born Melbourne based artist with an artistic family background. My mother is a watercolour artist and my father restores old paintings & furniture.
Travelling is my second passion after making art and most of my inspirations come from places I’ve been and people I’ve met. I also take sometimes inspirations from old record covers and magazines.

I’m fascinated with the emotional aspect rather than the external likeness of my subjects. My images evolve on the canvas during painting. I try to create moods and feelings.

In these series of portraits, I put consciously the eyes in the centre.
The expression in one’s eyes reflects what the human being thinks. The eyes are the windows to the soul.
I work predominantly with a limited colour palette and the use of fibre fabric to enhance the emotional aspect
