I was born in Birmingham but have been in Denver for over 25 years. My mom is an artist and inspired me to love art; the first time she took me to the Birmingham Museum of Art I knew I was hooked.
I have been an artist most of my life working in many mediums. I have found hand built ceramics and I feel as though I have found my true artistic voice. I love the feel of the clay in my hands and the immediacy that I can work in while creating. I enjoy cutting slabs in to shapes and then seeing how those shapes fit together. I may start with a basic idea but allow the clay to speak to me as I create.
I am currently working on a series of referential abstraction pieces titled Obsolescence based on shrines, altars, and temples that were lost for a thousand years in the jungles of Asia and South America or the deserts of Africa or the middle east. These pieces are a part of that series.
