5 Year Anniversary Art Exhibition – Artist Portfolio Magazine

Sarah Schneiderman – Glastonbury, CT

In 2013, I took up SCUBA diving. After taking diving trips to Caye Caulker in Belize, Key Largo in Florida, and Roatan in Honduras, I commenced on my current body of work — the Marine Life Series. SCUBA opened up a whole new world for me—the quiet, the beauty, the calm, and the dramatic of the ocean. Diving profoundly changed my life and opened this whole new area of exploration both underwater and in the studio.

I make art out of everyday household trash—broken jewelry, buttons, food wrapper, and other found objects. As I create, from found objects, fish and creatures I’ve seen on various dives, I experience the thrill and awe of diving and I’m doing my part to keep trash out of the waste stream and our oceans.

I see what some consider useless as usable. I see what some consider ugly as beautiful. I want to change the world, especially the oceans, and our approach to garbage and recycling, one art piece at a time.
