Adam Chaplin – Q2 Art Competition – Artist Portfolio Magazine

Adam Chaplin was born in 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up around animals living on a dairy and hiking through the Wasatch Mountains. He moved to Texas in the mid 1980’s where he enjoyed the hospitality of the south in Stephenville, where he still lives today, being amazed by the fact that everyone waved at each other on the country roads.

Adam is a self taught artist. He spent his adult years working in the outdoors having a career in construction. Adam states that building to him is like art, large functioning structures that people may enjoy. Having had a career outside, it took him a while to adjust to being inside a studio all day, but he makes up for this by painting nature and its occupants. His realistic style of art work encourages the viewer to focus on the subject of the painting. Inspired by Monet’s pursuit of light and air, Adam also works to bring these elements into his landscape paintings. Using oil as his medium, he aims to bring life to the canvas so that a single brief moment in time may be enjoyed for years to come.
