Artist Portfolio Magazine – Q2 Art Competition
- Melissa McGaughey – Erie, PA
I’ve always loved mythology and fairy tales. In fifth grade, I checked out a book from the library that featured Greek mythology and I stayed up long past my bedtime reading it. As a lesbian identified woman, I always struggled with our lack of representation in these stories. Not too long ago it occurred to me, I am an artist, I can create representation. So, I did. For this reason, I draw upon traditional mythology stories for my illustrations, recreating them with a queer, feminist twist.
