I believe that art is a dance, a communication between artist and viewer…a statement laid bare until picked up and incorporated into a new narrative. And it is the narrative of the artist, the ideas and thoughts, the essential communication that challenges me as I reach for the blank surface. What is the story I am wont to tell? As I work, I want to find myself exploring new perspectives—I want to feel uneasy, jarred, contemplative, or reflective as images, colors, textures clash or meld. I am fascinated by the moment of “ah ha!” of “really?” My work, whether visual, written or theatrical, seeks to capture those moments and translate them conceptually, abstractly, figuratively, or representationally on the canvas or three-dimensional surface. This is why you will see a wide variety of styles, materials and approaches in my work as I follow first one narrative then explore another.
