Konstantine Angelopoulos – Q1 Art Competition – Artist Portfolio Magazine

American artist Konstantine Angelopoulos, born in 1980 in New York City, creates complex and dramatic compositions that foreground the interrelation between abstraction and emotional experience. His practice, which includes painting, mixed media, and digital work, harnesses the straightforward color manipulation of Abstract Expressionism, the symbolizing drive of Neo-expressionism, the extensive aggregation of simple and linear forms explored by Dubuffet, and the direct energy of street art.

Works such as 2011’s Soul One, a 50” x 50” mixed-media piece on canvas, involve the accumulation of independent details into spontaneous and elaborate new wholes. Of his working method, Angelopoulos says, “I incorporate found objects and combine upcycled canvas from previous works. This is a chaotic process – layering of material contributes to an embodiment of depth.”

Angelopoulos’s work is in private collections in the United States. Angelopoulos currently lives and works in New York City.
