Jeffrey Olson & Lindsay Montgomery – Midwest vs West Art Exhibtition

Artist Portfolio Magazine – Midwest vs West Art Exhibition

Jeffrey Olson – Yelm, WA

Greetings! I am Jeffrey Olson a self taught assemblage sculpture artist; my choice of recycled materials, rusted metal and distressed wood, is influenced by my fascination with shape, texture and shade. My vision comes from an eclectic background of mythology, science fiction, primitive religion and psychological archetypes. These assembled forms may seem intimately familiar, yet alien to our notion of reality. They might exist on the edge of consciousness as a vague cultural memory or as the image just behind our eyelids as we slip into sleep.

I view my method as a kind of alchemy in which the materials are changed (recycled) into something new and vital which does not resemble their original form or purpose. I manipulate the materials very little, instead choosing to build on what the piece already seems to be. I hope these works serve as a conduit to an inner realm of fantasy and possibility.

  1. Love Jeffrey Olson’s sculptures – not that I’d have anywhere to put em … you need a million-dollar penthouse for work like that. Sighh …
