5 year Anniversary Art Exhibition – Artist Portfolio Magazine
Kurisutein Lopusnak – Reseda, CA
The motivation behind these pieces was to document the process of breaking down the walls that I felt confined in. The materials and methods were laid down to physically feel out what I was experiencing mentally.
I start by taking a poster of each of my Commodities paintings, cutting it up and ‘collaging’ it on to a wood panel. Once that is on the wood, I slammed an axe against it with frustration and then fervor as if to match the speed of the crumbling wall. The physical release resulted in a mental ease.
These pieces document the conversation between thinking and doing by activating the mental and physical aspects of breaking down walls. The colors and textures represent the result of the exercise.
